SHIFT HAPPENS SERIES

Shift Happens, Daily. Is it Happening To You or Through You?

Did the title grab your attention? Make you giggle just a little? Good. Mission accomplished.

But now, pause. Take that second sip of coffee (or tea, or whatever keeps your internal engine humming) and genuinely think for a moment: Earth-shattering shifts, minor adjustments, and almost imperceptible wobbles happen daily in your personal life and, absolutely, in your work life. Do you revel in those? Or do you lament and fight them as your default, go-to behavior?

If you’re like most people, you probably spend a little too much time doing the latter. We get it. Change can be exhausting. It forces us out of the comfortable rut of routine and into the scary, messy world of the unknown. That feeling of disruption is precisely why this series exists, and why we, your new favorite change consultants, are crashing into your LinkedIn feed.

The Unavoidable, Undeniable, Unstoppable River of Change

Change management isn’t some esoteric, box-ticking exercise reserved only for billion-dollar ERP implementations or massive mergers. It’s not just a PowerPoint slide in a project deck. Beyond projects and tools, daily change is a part of how people work, interact, and adapt. It shows up in every decision, every team shift, and every new piece of software you roll out.

Look at your to-do list from this morning. How many of those tasks involved a small or large adaptation?

  • Need to adopt a better access management system? Time for a change.
  • Need to pivot from that beloved, but failing, Excel sheet to a modern workflow platform? Time for a change.
  • Need to step away from DMs and return to human conversations in a digital era? Time for a change.
  • Or need to shift corporate culture toward innovation? Absolutely time for a change.

In the current market environment, continuous change is the norm, not an exception. As leaders, do we prioritize the status quo, allowing market shifts to dictate our trajectory and performance, or do we take full ownership of our strategy, proactively driving the necessary transformation inclusive of our people? Leaders must first define the “why” – the business imperative behind the transformation – in order to maximize the collective buy in and genuine ownership of the outcome.

Low Cost, High Return: The Radical Investment in People

For this series, it’s time to embrace change. Leaning into change management is a relatively low-cost/high-return investment for all who dare to welcome it. However, when people choose to ignore change, there can be real costs.

Project Failure: Technology implementations fail not because of bad code, but because people refuse to use the new system. That’s pure wasted capital.

Productivity Drain: Employees clinging to old ways create shadow processes, duplicate efforts, and a massive time-suck.

Talent Exodus: The best employees leave organizations that feel chaotic, poorly led, and resistant to modern ways of working.

Change management, when done right, is simply a formal approach to empathy and enablement. It’s about building a bridge to guide your people and help them move from the present into the future. It’s about communication, training, and building genuine advocacy among your employees.

We’ve seen organizations spend millions on software and mere thousands on the people side of change—and then wonder why the initiative stalled. We’re here to shift that mindset.

Meet the Navigators: Who Are We?

So, who are “we” who are being so bold as to lecture you on your professional life choices?

We are a group of consultants based out of Unify Consulting’s Dallas office. We have varied backgrounds, skills, and battle-tested experience, having worked on hundreds of projects for clients ranging from colossal to boutique. We’ve led change in boardrooms, trenches, and chaotic virtual meeting rooms.

If you don’t know us, you will. Maybe in more ways than you’d expect.

Our secret sauce, and the foundation of this series, is our perspective on the powerful intersection of Business, Technology, and Human Transformation. We don’t just implement tools; we help people adopt them. We don’t just set strategy; we help embed it into the DNA of the daily grind.

The Roadmap Ahead: What You’ll Learn

We hope that you learn at least one meaningful and usable thing in each article. We also hope our distinct personalities and humanity show through in the process. After all, we work to live, so we may as well enjoy the ride and each other’s company (and yours!) in the process.

This series, which we will publish weekly (or thereabouts), will be a pragmatic deep dive into how to manage the “shift” in the modern workplace. Expect insights on:

  • The Change Mindset: How to cultivate a personal and organizational culture that sees change as an opportunity, not an enemy.
  • The AI Revolution & Our Journey: We’ll share our own personal and professional journey through the disruptive waters of Artificial Intelligence, including the tools we’ve adopted and the surprising ways it has changed our consulting work.
  • The Human Conspiracy: We’ll dig into the fascinating, and often frustrating, truth of how humans frequently conspire against their own best interests. Why do people resist a change that will demonstrably make their lives easier? (It’s usually rooted in a straightforward, very primal need for psychological safety).
  • Actionable Frameworks: Practical models and methods you can use today to communicate a new initiative, train a team, or manage resistance.

So, sit back, take a long, loud slurp of coffee, and enjoy the show. Yeah, that was a bit dramatic, but the topic is truly that important.

The shift is happening. Let’s move beyond lip service and top-down mandates and embrace our collective ownership, and genuinely commit to building the next successful chapter, together.

Check back next Tuesday for Part Two: We Were Hired to Be People’s People: Why human connection matters more than “frameworks.”

Question for You: What is the single biggest “shift” your team is currently facing? Share your story in the comments—we’d love to hear it!

About The Shift Series

Shift Happens is a series exploring how organizations can turn disruption into direction. We write about the real, human side of work, where change, technology, behavior, and leadership collide in ways no framework fully captures.

Every article follows one of the five currents that shape modern work:

The Human Side of Transformation, the heartbeat beneath the strategy.

Change Management as the Missing Discipline, the discipline hiding in plain sight, quietly determining who succeeds.

Technology, Tools + Human Behavior, the space where logic meets instinct, and where most rollouts live or die.

Organizational Structure, Power & Governance, the lines, ladders, and tensions that decide how work truly flows.

Leadership Micro-Shifts, Governance & Operating Models, the small shifts that create disproportionate impact.

We combine lived experience with practical insight. The kind you can apply the same day, not someday.

Shift happens! But with the right mindset, it happens through you.

If your organization is navigating a shift in technology, structure, or culture and needs practical, human-centered support, reach out.

This is the work we love! And the work we do best.
