Product Management

Aligning product management practice and tools

Strategic discovery and design

Client Objective

Positioned for the future. An international organization had grown substantially through acquisition, bringing together disparate products and companies. They realized that to maintain their current market and grow their business, they required a common framework for their product teams. The framework needed to support highly technical products. It also had to help a physically dispersed product team fall into place.

Unique Challenge

Knocked down by dissonance. The product organizations were trying to keep up with the market, where leaders wanted to grow. But the diverse organizations and fast-running pace made it impossible for the team to step back and re-engineer the process. Business unit leaders were focused on keeping the next customer in line happy, versus setting a strategy for the product.

Unify Solution

An organization arranged for efficiency. Unify engaged and assessed the skills of key stakeholders and created clear job descriptions to align roles across the organization. This provided a consistent approach to product deliverables while providing employees with a well-defined career path. Interviews uncovered inconsistencies in how processes were utilized throughout the organization. The Unifiers built a best practice process that improved product and product enhancement delivery through clearly set expectations and established communications, supported by a common tool. To maintain consistency across the organization, Unify supported ongoing mentoring, growth and continuous improvement by designing and implementing a Circle of Excellence, all in tandem with a common mission statement. The company was now aligned and ready to go.

Proven Impact

Poised for possibilities. Thanks to Unify, the client now has a design solution that provides a framework for faster time to market for product features and products. They have a new standard to improve forecasting and increase revenue. With the ability to create customer-centric solutions, as well as reduce churn within the product management community, employee morale has increased, and turnover has decreased. The client has faster decision-making and clear ownership of the product roadmap and releases. The new standardized process, nomenclature, and defined inputs and outputs have increased efficiency and kept everyone moving in the same direction.
